Almost everyone
who came to my door
Mynydd Coch, Croes-y-pant, 2016-2018
Between 2004 and 2018, I lived in a remote hamlet of 5 houses near Abergavenny in South Wales. Being tucked away at the end of a country lane, it was a quiet place to live, and we were spared the usual stream of door to door vendors, collectors for charity and double glazing salesmen. Detailed driving directions had to be provided to friends, family and delivery people prior to their first visit to find us, otherwise there was always the danger that cars got stuck on a rough track simply by turning right and not left!
When I decided to sell up and move, I wanted to record the place I had called my home for the longest period in my life since leaving my parental house. People make a place, so what better way to mark a place by photographing the community that interact with it.
During the 2 years it took me to sell and move, everyone who came to my house was asked to have their photograph taken, a request that was usually not denied, and a head and shoulder portrait was quickly taken against the white garage wall. This is a small selection.
